I am currently working at the Electronics Unit at the European Synchrotron in Grenoble (France), and we decided to use AirHDL register generator tool for new projects. However, we recently learned the heartbreaking and shocking news that Guy Eschemann, the main developer of this tool, has passed away.
I tried to contact AirHDL for a few weeks without an answer, and I was wondering if maybe someone using AirHDL might have more information concerning the current status of this tool. We were using AirHDL under special conditions for research purposes with renewable licenses every year, and after the expiration of our licenses we might need to start looking for an alternative solution.
As we discusssed with @naranzab already, it seems that Guy’s brother is now in charge of maintening the project. From my knowledge, it was the software guy behind the scene.
By now I have only noticed that the “Suggest a feature” section in the registered version of the site is no longer working.
Yes, I was able to contact Guy’s brother, Thomas Eschemann, and he told me that he is taking over AirHDL. He told me that for the short-team he is planning to maintain the tool operational, and that now he is actively working on finding a way to secure AirHDL’s future. He told me that at this stage is not able to share detailed information, but that he is expecting to have a clearer picture in the coming months.
